A Planning Authority notice about the construction of a monument was affixed to a tree in St John’s Square in Valletta. This, of course, caught the attention of passers-by who could not understand why the notice was put there, of all places. One would have thought the authorities would ensure trees are treated with more respect!

Right of way

Why is it that some drivers think they are above the law and can do what they please? On Friday, one such motorist heading towards Valletta through St Anne Street, Floriana, seemed to be oblivious to the regulations on who can make use of bus lanes. Of course, this is no way an isolated case, yet, many motorists feel they can do it because rarely, if ever, are defaulters booked.

Sign of the times

It may not have remained there for long, but the fact that a restaurateur thought he had every right to place a sign promoting his outlet above the fountain in St George’s Square, Valletta, is indicative of the way most of us treat our heritage. The fact that this happened to be such a prominent place and in the capital further underscores the point. Shame indeed.

Bad state

Manoel Island needs some serious attention, which, one must admit, is now long overdue. Many areas there have become a dumping ground, with all sort of waste being thrown there. Who will take the lead?
