The ditch at Victoria Gate, Valletta, is full of rubbish including a rusty bedstead. The area is also chock-full of overgrown weeds. Attention is urgently needed to not only clean it up but also ensure it is well maintained.

Too high

Pavements at St Massimiliano Kolbe bridge, in front of St Anthony’s church at Ta’ Paris, in Birkirkara are almost 30cm high. Most motorists would not be able to open their vehicles’ doors as pedestrians struggle to board or alight. It also makes crossing the road a hassle, which, in turn, affects traffic in the area.

Standing out

It seems as though health and safety precautions are a non-issue for some. Last week, a man was seen at the Sliema Front standing inside a moving van loaded with wooden planks. He was holding on to mattresses tied on top of the van. The man was, of course, a danger both to himself and to others. Is it possible no warden, no police officer spotted him?

Selfish behaviour

Someone recently dumped dining room furniture at the bring-in site in Triq il-Gummar, Birkirkara, even though there is a civic amenity site just five minutes away in Mrieħel. It’s unbelievable how selfish some people can be, blatantly ignoring rules and defying even common sense. When education fails, the only answer can only be strict enforcement and punishment.

In the dark

Ta’ Qali hosts an outdoor gym and a small public football pitch covered with artificial grass, both popular with adults and children alike. In summer, the area is used mostly towards the late afternoon and in the evening. Which is why is makes no sense for the place to be in darkness when the sun goes down! There are two spotlights but neither of them function.
