A skip crying out for another skip… The company responsible for emptying these skips in Sardegna Street, Tarxien, must have skipped its duties last week. The end result was obvious: locals simply abandoned their waste on the road, making the area look shabby.

Dangerous practice

A commercial vehicle transporting beverages in plastic packaging was last week spotted on the road with its cargo completely exposed to heat and direct sun light. Exposing plastic to high temperatures could be dangerous, especially when this occurs for long stretches of time. One can only wonder which authority should intervene to stop such unhealthy practice and to instruct distributors how to go about their business.

No sign

The state of street signs on roads leading to Ħaġar Qim and the Blue Grotto, in Żurrieq, are a complete mess. At one point, drivers who come to a junction have no option but to guess which direction to go because not a single sign is in sight. Such places attract many tourists. Are visitors, and even locals who may be unfamiliar with the area, expected to go round in circles until they stumble upon their destination?

Rubbish accumulation

Residents of Main Street, Siġġiewi, have for years been forced to live with mounts of garbage accumulating regularly there. They say rubbish bags are not being collected regularly and complaints to the local council yielded no results.

Safety hazard

Works continue – with no end in sight, it seems – on the stretch of road between Lija and Mosta, close to the Pama shopping village, with some parts being dug up… again. Plastic barriers in place to direct drivers away from such areas are extremely weathered and serve no purpose, especially at night. This matter has been raised in these columns so many times but nobody in authority bothers to give the public an explanation. More importantly, nobody seems to want to lift a finger to get the job done soonest. Where are the local councils? What a shame!
