Works have recently been carried out at Pembroke, close to the Park and Ride facility, and it was refreshing to see the widely used red and white barriers held in place by bags of sand.
This eliminates the all-too-common instance of having the barriers flying off with the first gust of wind. The barriers were also equipped with lighting to be seen at night. More such practices are needed.
Floating eyesore
At Spinola Bay, one of the most picturesque bays in Malta, it is impossible to take a good photo, especially by the Love sign, as the sea is littered with plastic jerry cans and containers acting as makeshift buoys
This practice has been going on for decades, and it will be a pity if this eyesore is not corrected. Could the authorities involved please take immediate action?
Spell check
Well done to all those involved in the restoration of Fort St Elmo and the setting up of the museum. However, a more descriptive caption by each item should be installed.
Moreover, the spelling of the captions in both Maltese and English needs to be checked as there are some mistakes, albeit just a few. This applies to all Heritage Malta sites.
Blatant disregard
As more grocery stores throughout the island are staying open until late in the evening, the problem of drivers parking illegally has increased. Those popping down at all hours to make a quick purchase seem to think it’s acceptable to just park their car in the middle of road, often causing traffic jams and posing a danger to the other drivers. More wardens need to be patrolling areas where there are these stores to cut down illegal parking.
Trees gone missing
What were once tall, beautiful trees have gradually disappeared from the area just above Għar Fekruna Inlet at Xemxija.
These trees fell victim to a fierce fire some summers ago; now they have disappeared one by one.
Could the authorities involved monitor the area so that vandals taking the trees are caught?
