One of the sights welcoming tourists and locals walking up Ġlormu Cassar Avenue to Castille Square, Valletta, is an open electricity panel in one of the lanterns along the road. Who is responsible for the safety of pedestrians? Prompt action is a must, not just because it is an eyesore but, more so, as it could be dangerous.

Store wars

As Lidl supermarket continues to publicly proclaim that it is working for customer satisfaction, those buying a few items at the San Ġwann store on December 13 had to wait in never-ending queues because, despite the festive season, the chain management decided to leave a number of tills unmanned.

Now that is hardly an example of continued customer service improvement aimed at enabling them to shop comfortably at their own convenience!

Between the lines

Traffic lines were being painted in Paceville on Thursday morning. However, the line had to be abruptly cut short and continued further down the road because of a blue car parked there. Was it such a big problem to trace the owner or tow it away to make one continuous line?

Anything goes

As more classic Sliema houses continue to be gutted to make way for apartments, the least developers could do is try to avoid having more eyesores in what is now a veritable concrete jungle. This once beautiful building in Howard Street is covered by shabby hoarding and, to top it all off, misspelt warnings.

Customer service

Vodafone Malta says that being “the only Apple authorised reseller of iPhones… in Malta… helps [it] provide… customers the latest technology accompanied by the best service and offers on the Maltese Islands”. At least one dissatisfied customer disagrees. He purchased an iPhone6 from the US and the handset developed a fault, but when he went to Vodafone here he was told they couldn’t repair it as it was purchased outside the EU. He was advised to go to an Apple Centre. He did, in Germany, an EU member, and the necessary replacement was done within two hours with no questions asked. That’s good customer care – not the one ‘offered’ in Malta.
