Why is smoking allowed in the external areas of sports facilities and complexes, especially those frequented by children? The habit definitely jars with the healthy lifestyle that those who frequent such places usually try to lead. One such case is the Tal-Qroqq complex where hundreds of children have to walk through clouds of smoke before they start their swimming lessons or other training.

Couldn’t care less

A truck driver who blocked the street parallel to the Junior College in Msida on Tuesday evening was not bothered by the amount of traffic making its way there. At one point, he just started the engine, reversed towards the corner and made his way up another one-way road to avoid the traffic. Where are the wardens when needed?

Flimsy barricades

Why are the red and white plastic barricades, used at every corner of the island, not being filled up with liquid to stop them from flying away? Such is the case at Lija where rocks are being used to anchor the barricades placed there to divert traffic away from Triq tat-Torba. Given the frequent use of these sorts of barricades, it should at least be ensured they are handled the way they are meant to. But who is responsible to ensure this is done?

Creating a stink

Xemxija Bay was for a long time renowned for the constant smell of drainage that emanated from there. That problem seemed to have been solved, only for the smell to return frequently last summer on the St Paul’s Bay side of the bay. Now, the town’s main road around the Veċċja area has been beset by the smell of drainage on and off for weeks, with sewage water even trickling down the street for days on end. When will something be done to solve the problem once and for all?
