Has the pedestrianisation of Merchants Street, Valletta, in particular, been thrown out the window? That seems to be the case, since the number of cars parking illegally, especially outside the Foreign Affairs Ministry, has been increasing daily.

At your own risk

Why are restaurants allowed to have tables and chairs out on narrow pavements, to the detriment of pedestrians, who have to make way into the middle of the road to get past the obstacles? One such case is situated in the lower part of Republic Street, Valletta, just past the President’s Palace.

Safety awareness

It’s surprising how the large shopping complex at Tigne Point, Sliema, does not have any idea of why certain safety features are installed. The person who placed vending machines in front of a water hose point, to be used in case of a fire, definitely lacks common sense and should should be ordered to come in line immediately.

Road markings

The road markings painted recently in Pantar Road, which links Attard to Mosta, have already faded out almost completely. They need to be repainted as soon as possible, because they direct traffic to different lanes to avoid congestion at the Mosta end.

Danger zone

Works are taking place on the embellishment project at Castile. Apart from the inconveniences caused by dust, noise, etc., contractors should ensure that the safety of pedestrians is given top priority. A slightly uncovered pothole could easily lead to someone having his or her leg caught inside, especially at night in the dark.
