A scammel last Thursday managed to create complete chaos, blocking the flow of traffic going both up and down Triq it-Torri in Msida, as its driver took his time over a large load. He blocked the road for at least five minutes and was unperturbed by the cacophony of horns and people swearing.

Pavement hogging

The coffee shop at the corner between St George’s and St Andrew’s roads, St Julian’s, seems to have taken things into its own hands. A table and two chairs, plus an advert sign on already very narrow pavement are forcing people with pushchairs and wheelchairs to go down on to the road to pass. This is very dangerous.

Lack of planning

A waste bin on the promenade at Marsaxlokk is obstructing the letter box. Who was the wise guy behind this decision? It definitely shows lack of common sense and planning.

Public transport improvements

The buses being imported by the new transport operator are much better suited to Malta’s conditions than Arriva’s huge and noisy King Long vehicles. They lack one important feature, however: they do not show the route number and the ‘next stop’ to passengers in the bus, as most buses do through the revolving destination ribbon. At night, passengers even have difficulty knowing exactly where they are because, with the bus lit up on the inside, all they can see through the windows is a reflection of the bus interior.

Abuse at the beach

The warm weather has started attracting more people to the beach. The public cleansing department needs to do a thorough clean-up of the beaches, while being on the look out for any discarded syringes, such as this spotted at Ħondoq Bay.
