Free for all
It seems that having a number of reserved parking spaces for car-sharing vehicles is useless as they are still being parked everywhere and anywhere. This picture was taken in Naxxar a few days ago. Whoever is responsible for the monitoring of the scheme, endorsed by the government, should ensure users abide by the rules.
Sort it out
The new recycling scheme has been in place for some weeks now and, yet, reports of mountains of garbage bags at every corner of the island are still being made. In some cases, the rubbish mound is such it blocks a pavement entirely. Are pedestrians expected to leave the pavement and walk on the road to continue on their way? This is indeed a matter the needs sorting out.
Big mess
While the government has been saying it will be rebuilding the entire road network over a period of seven years, it seems potholes are still being fixed using cheap asphalt. In Attard, recently, asphalt was laid on several potholes without them even being properly packed. One can imagine what will happen to the road the next time it rains. This surely cannot be the sort of job the government was talking about when it said all roads would be rebuilt. There was once talk of a permanent road repair team.
Dump it
The authorities have generally been doing a good job in curbing the illegal dumping of bulky refuse but it seems some still think they are free to deposit any unwanted items wherever they please or is more convenient to them. Some irresponsible person recently decided to dump a stand fan on the side of Sliema Road, in Gżira. Harsher fines for those caught dumping illegally were introduced some years ago. The powers-that-be need to ensure the rules are enforced and culprits heavily fined.
