I cannot help observing many car owners and drivers who have the habit of hanging good-luck charms, adverts, air fresheners and a vast assortment of "decorations" of different sizes and colours to their internal rear view mirror.

Although it may seem "cute" to have a reminder of your girlfriend dangling from the mirror (or perhaps of your ex, "hanging" in some manner!), these ornaments can be potential hazards, especially if they are large enough to obscure the driver's proper vision of the road, pavement and any signage ahead.

These can easily hide from view a child who may be about to cross the road. Equally hazardous are loose objects running around in the car, especially on the dashboard or on the floor.

Drivers are required to keep "a proper lookout" while driving and this can only be done if there is nothing impairing their vision and attention.
