Swimmer Andrew Chetcuti came fourth in the Rio Games 100 metres freestyle heats yesterday touching home in 51.37 seconds.

Racing in the third heat, Chetcuti was leading the race after the opening 50 metres but then faded in the final metres. His time was 0.42 seconds slower than his own national mark he set last month.

Mozambique’s Igor Mogne won the heat in 50.65 seconds. 

In target shooting, Eleonor Bezzina made her second and final appearance when she competed in the 25 metres air pistol competition.

She placed 22nd from 44 shooters in the 10 metres air pistol but then found competition much tougher.

The first female shooter to represent Malta at the Olympics, Bezzina compiled scores of 96, 94 and 93 in the precision segment to amass 283 points.

In the rapid leg, she hit 96, 91 and 92 for a 279 scoreline that saw her finish with an overall tally of 562 points that saw her finish in 36th place on 562 points.
