A reunion of the Old Aloysians 1945-51 was held recently at Loyola House in Naxxar.

The occasion, the initiative of Fr Robert Wirth SJ, brought together "old boys" of the college, including President Emeritus Eddie Fenech Adami, some of whom had not met over the last 50 to 60 years.

The event started with a welcome address by Fr Wirth who remembered departed members of the Jesuit Community who were in service during the 1945-51 period. He also paid a special tribute to Fr Anton Azzopardi SJ, who was present.

Past "old boys" of the same period who have since died were individually remembered. Fr Wirth celebrated Mass, during which he delivered a short homily emphasising the importance of preserving and promoting strong family ties.

Although still prevalent in Malta, such values were being threatened by so-called modern concepts which were negatively affecting Malta's traditional family bonds, he said.

Fr Wirth was assisted by the old prefects of the Boys' Divisions, Fr Anton Azzopardi and Fr Mario Jaccarini.

Organisers of the event also included Ray Cassar Torreggiani, Albert Delia and Renè Formosa.
