A drunk man whose argument with his partner carried on at the Marsa police station was yesterday charged with assaulting and slightly injuring a police officer.

Joseph Zammit, a 36-year-old car dealer from St Paul’s Bay, denied injuring the policeman at 2am on Sunday, breaching the peace, swearing in public, disobeying police orders and relapsing.

The court heard how the man had had an argument with his partner and mother of his two children who live in an institute.

The couple ended up at the Marsa police station and the police officer sustained injuries while he was trying to calm the situation. The court heard that Mr Zammit was “very drunk” at the time.

Magistrate Marseann Farrugia granted him bail against a personal guarantee of €5,000. She also ordered him not to speak to his partner until she testifies in court.

Police inspector Robert Vella prosecuted while lawyer Jonathan Abela appeared for the man.
