I have noticed that every now and then, Frans Said uses this newspaper to forward comments and suggestions about the benefit of St Paul's Bay. As a council member and a previous dog owner, I'd like to comment about his letter of September 9.

To start with, I cannot but agree more in criticising the local councils' present system with regard to qualifications: lack of experience and management skills.

The problem is that the system started on a bad foot when it was politicised. Unfortunately, as things stand, a councillor who happens to be a member of the other side of the fence, most of the time cannot influence an already formed opinion by the majority simply because of political animosity.

But, on the other hand, each and every election, the residents have the right to choose their preferred party and to elect their representatives. They call this democracy and I will respect it.

As for his statement that dogs are by their nature aggressive, it seems to me that Mr Said still needs to experience the joy these creatures bring.

As for their needs to wee and poop, yes I agree that some dog owners are very irresponsible and should be fined drastically.

I am a previous owner of five dogs, from labradors to German shepherds. I had trained them to do their needs back home. And I believe this should be the way of doing things if we really care about others.

I invite Mr Said and others to make their suggestions. I promise that my door is always open if it is for the benefit of our community.
