Front Ħarsien ODZ has expressed its disappointment that the Prime Minister, the Archbishop, the Mepa chairman and the Dominican Provincial have “ignored” its letter for a win-win solution to the Għaxaq ODZ issue.

The Dominican Province has defended its choice of a site in Għaxaq to relocate St Albert College from Valletta and argued that comparisons with the plans for a university at Żonqor were unfair.

Despite the fact that such development falls within the local plan, Front Ħarsien ODZ has expressed its concern about locating the school on virgin, ODZ land.

Front Ħarsien is disappointed that all four authorities have not accepted its invitation fora solution

While understanding that the current premises of St Albert’s College are inadequate, the movement proposed that the applicants should withdraw the pending application at Għaxaq and the government and the planning authority should commit to identifying alternative sites.

These could include brownfield sites, sites previously used by the government for schooling, and other government-owned land.

“Front Ħarsien ODZ expresses its disappointment that all four authorities have not accepted its invitation for a solution based on goodwill and mutual respect, so that an adequate site may be found for St Albert College instead of the current one in Valletta and the proposed one in Għaxaq,” the front said.
