A word of gratitude is due to Alfred Sant for his correct behaviour in victory and defeat, and for having eliminated the rowdy and violent section of the party.

Perhaps the call of New Labour seems to disown the founders of the party which at that time campaigned for "one man, one vote" as certain well-off persons were entitled to vote in more than one electoral district. They also campaigned for the official language to be Maltese and for women, whose place at that time was "in the kitchen", to be given the vote.

Against the vast majority of Europeans at that time, they preferred a democratic government (with all its then shortcomings) rather than a dictatorial regime.

Not only are obsolete laws still with us today but also modern, common laws such as the CGT are unjustly administered by the government, whereby a citizen is branded as a swindler on the sole opinion of a government appointed A. & C.E. Moreover, this tax is a misnomer in the sale of pre-war rented buildings as in reality it is a tax on a loss.

Let's hope that a new government will assume full responsibility to rectify matters, and not correct an injustice with another injustice as some quarters are suggesting.
