A total 205 people with an addiction problem made use of the OASI Foundation’s Treatment and Rehabilitation Unity last year, the organisation said.

It said 64 benefitted from a residential programme and collectively made use of 2,568 bed nights. Ninety-five per cent of the residents using OASI’s services were residents of Malta, the rest Gozitans.

The OASI residential addiction treatment programme is a very intensive one based on the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous, tailored for local needs on the Minnesota Model.

It comprises an intensive residential therapy period of eight to 12 weeks, according to the individual’s requirement, followed by a tapering aftercare support on an outpatient basis.

Besides residential treatment, OASI offers also the same programme on an outpatients basis and 141 clients benefitted from this service last year.

The information was given during OASI’s annual general meeting last Sunday.
