OASI Foundation director general Fr Emanuel Cordina said it was important that people attending the recovery programme would receive the full support from the staff, and in return addicts would learn to support others in similar situations.

Fr Cordina, who was speaking during an event marking the 19th anniversary of the OASI Foundation, said the concept of give and take helped addicts to increase their self esteem. More importantly, addicts would find acceptance and feel they were being loved.

To commemorate the event a barbecue was held on June 25. Last Sunday, Fr Cordina celebrated the Holy Eucharist at OASI in Victoria, followed by a get-together. The board of directors, staff, volunteers, residents and their families attended.

Since 1992, the foundation has been organising the Youth of the Year Award to publicly acknowledge and appraise the voluntary work carried out by youths.
