Blood supply shortages continue to plague Malta's national blood transfusion service, with stocks of O-positive blood at especially critical levels.

O-positive blood stocks are so low that the service has had to warn of "undesirable consequences" unless donors came forward.

The service first issued an urgent call for donors last weekend, saying high demand from hospitals coupled with a decline in donors had led to a drastic decline in blood stocks.

In a Facebook statement issued today, the service again asked anyone willing and able to donate blood to do so as soon as possible.

You can donate blood any day of the week between 8am and 6pm by visiting the blood donation centre next to St Luke's Hospital. Donors should bring their ID card or driving licence with them.
