The nurses’ union is asking for more protection for staff at Mount Carmel Hospital who are suffering from regular “physical and verbal abuse” from patients.

The Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses said these situations were occurring at least once a month. “MUMN can’t continue to tolerate such situations…

Apart from physical abuse the nurses are also suffering psychological trauma,” the union said, adding this often forced members to seek psychological help.

The union urged the management of Mount Carmel to solve the situation and give nurses all the necessary protection to be able to work in a safe environment.
