Nurses who are likely to be assigned to accident scenes this morning attended a briefing and demonstration on how they should work on the scene of a major traffic accident.

The demonstration was held by the 'Spider' volunteers of the Civil Protection Department as part of a two-day 'training trauma camp' organised by the Community Education Team of the Emergency Department at Mater Dei Hospital.

The nurses were yesterday lectured on assessment of an accident scene, assessment of the patient, airway breathing and circulation, extraction and spinal injuries, and the patient perspective.

During today's demonstration they were also briefed on what to expect on the scene of an accident, communications, injuries assessment and emergency treatment on site.

The scenario was of a collision between two cars in which one person was dead and seven were injured of whom four were trapped.
