The number of persons registering for work in November stood at 6,501 compared to 7,639 in the same month last year, the National Statistics Office said.

It said that according to data provided by the Employment and Training Corporation (ETC), November saw a decrease of 1,133 persons registering under Part I and a decline of five among those registering under Part II of the unemployment register, when compared to November 2013.

Decreases in registered unemployment were recorded in all age groups and in all categories of duration of registration, with the most significant being recorded among those who had been registering for employment for less than 21 weeks.

The number of persons with a disability who were registering for work also decreased by 84 to 449.

In November 2014 the largest share of men on the unemployment register sought occupations as crafts and related trade workers (17.5 per cent), whereas the largest share of women mostly sought occupations as technicians and associate professions or clerks and support workers (25.3 per cent).

The registered unemployed rate in July stood at 4.0 per cent of the labour supply, (excluding part-time employment) and varied from 4.7 per cent among men to 2.7 per cent among women.
