It's after 10:00pm on Election Day, so I can write what I like without worrying that a couple of the Force's finest will pitch up and feel my collar. For the record, chaps, I think I might have broken the law a couple of times or so on Saturday, so feel free to come down on me like a ton of feathers.

Now the waiting starts, with pundits punting and increasingly tired journalists doing their stand-uppers, all desperately trying to find something even vaguely interesting to say.

The writing has been on the wall for the PN, if you take the polls at face-value (not necessarily a good idea) for a long time and the body, and actual, language of the assorted talking heads I've seen, before switching back to Brit Rock'n'roll of the Seventies on the Beeb, seems to confirm this. Are they right or are they wrong?

I've no idea, I've never had any idea, and to the best of my recollection, I've never even hazarded a guess as to who is going to win.

No matter, we'll know for sure soon enough. Whatever the result, I'd just like to take a moment to ram it down the throats of the various Lil'Elves and Peculiar Pundits who have polluted the comments section below this blog and my Beck column that I stand by every single word I've written and I regret not a single one, except if, unwittingly, I might have got a touch too personal and maybe hurt someone. I don't remember any instances of that, but just in case.

And just so you'll know, I'll be carrying on with this stuff, so all those adherents to the doctrine that "Labour will soon cut you down to size" will just have to live with it, assuming for the sake of argument that Labour will be in Government.

If they're not, they'll have to live with that fact and with me going on with this stuff, a double blow for them. As they say in Panto, when it's time to slope off home, goodnight, and be nice to one another.

Whoever gets to be in charge as of Monday, let's remember that he's our employee, and hope he does too. We've given him a nice country to play with, let's hope he doesn't break it.
