Activities on Notte Bianca, taking place on October 3, will gain new space and dimension this year as they spread as far as the Valletta Waterfront.

"The Valletta Waterfront, with its majestic backdrop of Grand Harbour and architectural history, is an integral part of the Capital City's history, charm and portfolio; it is logical that the destination forms part of the Notte Bianca's programme of activities. This decision, with the collaboration of the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts, gives visitors the opportunity to cover more artistic ground in the city and perhaps wrap up the night with a meal, drink or some late-night shopping at one of the outlets dotting the water's edge," said Joshua G. Giordimaina, Marketing Executive (Landside) of VISET Malta plc, operators of the Valletta Waterfront.

Different activities will be happening at the Valletta Waterfront during the evening, which is also being prepared to be the after-hour destination. "Basically, people can visit and enjoy Valletta and its jewels and then make their way to the Waterfront to continue their evening until the early hours of the next morning. For this purpose, bars, restaurants and shops will have extended operating hours until late," said Mr Giordimaina.

A diverse and exciting programme of activities is being prepared for this special night, including A Carnival Experience at the Valletta Waterfront. Situated within the bastion stores behind the promenade, this exhibition will include an eclectic and colourful display of carnival costumes, a photographic exhibition dating back to Carnival editions of the late 1940s and an interactive demonstration showing how a Carnival float is actually built from scratch.

A cultural activity will include "Highlights from Musicals" by Barocco Cultural Events, with the participation of Marita Bezzina, Frans Mangion and pianist Ramona Zammit Formosa. The programme will present popular excerpts from well-known musicals like ‘Showboat' and ‘The Sound of Music'. The performances will be held on the hour from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. at the Sagrestia Vault, Valletta Waterfront (entrance through the Chapel). Entrance is free.

A live band will also be performing on the promenade, adding to the atmosphere and unique experience of this special night.

Transport modes will be available for people to commute between the Valletta Waterfront and the city centre easily and efficiently. These include a shuttle service on a trackless train between the Waterfront and Victoria Gate, from 6:30 p.m. until 3 a.m. This service is free of charge. Water taxis will also operate between the Valletta Waterfront laguna and Vittoriosa Waterfront from 6:30 p.m. until 3 a.m. at a cost of €5 per passenger per way if only one person commutes or €2.50 per passenger per way for trips carrying more than one passenger. Dghajjes (Maltese traditional boats) will operate the same route during the same timings and at the same prices.

The Valletta Waterfront quays will be available for parking after 7 p.m.

"For the sake of running the evening smoothly and to avoid unavailability disappointments, patrons are recommended to book their tables at the Valletta Waterfront restaurants in advance. From our side, no effort is being spared to make it possible for visitors doing the Notte Bianca experience that once they've been there and done that, they come down for a cultural activity or an enjoyable meal to relax by the sea," said Mr Giordimaina.
