A notary facing charges of misappropriation was ordered to submit his ID card and passport to the Court so that he would not be able to leave the island.

Magistrate Doreen Clarke ordered Notary Pierre Falzon, who is going through criminal proceedings for falsification of documents, not to travel and to report to the police everyday against a personal guarantee of €20,000.

Police inspector Ian Abdilla requested the magistrate to impose conditions on Notary Falzon, brought to Malta after a European arrest warrant had been issued against him when he failed to turn up in Court a number of times.

Notary Falzon was arrested in Spain on February 26 where he accepted to be extradited to Malta.

Defence lawyer Michael Sciriha told the court that the inspector was giving the wrong impression to the court and if his client had really wanted to escape, he would have flown to some South American country and not remained in Europe.
