Mario de Marco has submitted his nomination for the election of PN deputy leader for parliamentary affairs, the only candidate to do so.

He submitted his nomination just minutes before the 2 pm. deadline, joking that submitting his nomination at the last minute was in keeping with 'tradition' and he had done the same for the leadership contest.

In brief comments, Dr de Marco recalled that he had said he would serve in whichever role the party needed him in.

He said he was not pressured in any way to contest the post  and he was doing this for the good of the party.

Earlier, Beppe Fenech Adami and Claudette Buttigieg submitted their nomination for  PN deputy leader for party affairs.

BEPPE FENECH ADAMI

Speaking to reporters, Dr Fenech Adami said he was submitting his nomination out of humility and love for the party.

He said he was born in politics and had given 35 years of service, being active in various positions going up the ranks step by step. He said he was first a member, then a councillor, then a candidate, then an MP.

He understood the way the party worked and he was submitting his nomination out of a sense of service to politics, especially now that there were people who were going into politics for the wrong personal ambitions.

Dr Fenech Adami said he was opting for the role of deputy leader for party affairs because he knew exactly how the party worked and felt he could contribute more in this role. He said that no one had pressured him - either to contest or to withdraw from contesting a particular position.

CLAUDETTE BUTTIGIEG

Ms Buttigieg said she had opted to seek election for the role of deputy leader for party affairs, not parliamentary affairs, because she considered herself a 'people person'.

She felt this role put her closer to the party's people. She said she had a good understanding of how the party worked, having worked within it for a number of years. She also knew its difficulties.

Ms Buttigieg said she hoped councillors would not vote for her because she is a woman, but on the basis of competence.

She felt she could be an asset in bringing more people closer to the party.
