Marguerite Camilleri and Matthew Grech (May 9) have very legitimate reasons to complain about the "music" on May 1 in Spinola. The day being a holiday did not justify the event since the following day was a working day for those living in the neighbourhood.

Both writers only scratched the surface of the inconvenience. One suspects that the rule against glass containers on the streets is not applicable to these events. Just outside the police station to boot!

If there are any portable toilets provided for events of this nature they must be well hidden. If we must have these parties, then these toilets just have to be placed in a number of areas. This will perhaps prevent the steps near Saddles Bar from turning into a yellow river and residents in the area finding surprises on their property, such as finding one's car with vomit all over it and two piles of human faeces on either side of it. One wonders what the police would have done had the owner of the car gone and reported this.

It's best not to have any such events sanctioned. There's enough noise pollution with the soccer games. If they must be held, they should happen on the eve of a holiday. There are means of determining when the noise level goes above the accepted limit whatever that might be. One doubts if anything is done when the level is exceeded.

Hats off to the kind gentleman who hoses down the steps leading up to Lapsi Street.
