I recently read on The Times that the local authorities were taking measures to keep noise pollution to a minimum. Complaints were raised in view of early morning construction noise and trucks travelling along narrow built-up roads and other instances of dogs barking at night as well as disco music extending to the early morning hours, and similar other instances which, to my knowledge, have never been tackled.

I live in Qormi which, by night, is quite a quiet and relaxed place, and I wish to particularly refer to instan-ces of noise pollution emanating from mobile discos inside cars at night which destroy the chance of the inhabitant getting a good night's sleep. Moreover, we are disturbed by the noise from the motorised bicycles which are being used during the night to wander around without their riders being told off by the wardens or the police. These bicycles do not appear to be registered.

This is not fair at all. This type of noise is heard all over the place. It is easily traced and the police could quickly and easily get hold of these persons, who have no respect for their fellow men at all.

This sort of noise destroys the peace and well-being of those who live in our village, especially the village core where more often than not these practices take place. I appeal to the police to take action. The government should strengthen the laws against noise pollution, especially of this type, and those whose duty it is to ensure peace and tranquillity should fulfil their responsibilities.
