Can we look forward to a Church which all believers can call home? Where there is the possibility of debate even in areas of faith? Where the opinion of the minority is listened to even when it is not pleasant and very different from that of the majority?

Where theology can be done... even at the grassroots? When we can listen to different opinions with respect and with a discerning spirit?

Can we express ideas in the spirit of Vatican II or do we have to toe the line without mature reflection on our faith?

The Holy Spirit does work through each one of us if we have an open heart and the patience to listen. We are all sinners in search of God's love. Yet we have strength when we reach out to understand and help each other.

While respecting the Archbishop's authority and without wishing to enter into endless debates on the matter, I humbly ask that we reflect on the fact that although Fr Mark Montebello may have been too forceful in his choice of words on some occasions, he was actually expressing some thoughts of a number of Catholics in Malta.

They are issues that need to be addressed, discussed and not silenced.

Although I do not agree with all Fr Montebello has said, I sincerely believe that all believers (clergy and lay) should have a voice and a place in this Church that we all love so much and belong to!
