No target date has been fixed by the education authorities for the purchase or hire of tablets to be used by Year Four pupils, Education Minister Evarist Bartolo said.

Replying to a question in Parliament by Nationalist MP Ryan Callus, Mr Bartolo said the Ministry of Education is to start a consultation process on the effective use of tablets in the context of new programmes which will be drafted as part of the National Minimum Curriculum.

The government's plan is for the tablets to be used as a teaching tool to improve basic skills, the minister said.
