The Local Government Department warned today that playgrounds are smoke-free zones and anyone breaking this law can be fined up to €232.90.

The department recalled that the law was established through legal notice 493 of 2011.

It said the restriction was applicable to the area around the playing equipment used by children. Local Councils have been asked to delineat the confines of such zones and ensure that the public know about them.
