Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said this evening that neither the police nor Transport Malta had granted permits to CABS to fly their drone over Malta although he stopped short of saying that the activity was illegal.

He was replying to a question by Labour MP Charles Mangion on whether the drone was covered by permits by the police or the relevant authority. He asked if anyone could spy on other people without authorisation by the authorities and whether any legal action had been instituted.

Dr Gonzi said no permits had been issued and the activity was being investigated by the Police. A complaint had also been made to the Data Protection Commissioner and the government was awaiting the outcome of these investigations.
