No one was given an effective prison term for domestic violence in the past five years, according to information given in parliament.

Home Affairs Minister Manuel Mallia gave the following information to Labour MP Deo Debattista in reply to a parliamentary question.

The penalties to those who were convicted consisted of fines, probation orders, conditional discharge, suspended sentence and personal guarantees. No information was available on repeat offenders and injuries caused.
