At the beginning of the 18th century, the first festa took place in these islands, and in 1726 bands were introduced, and much later fireworks, etc.

Loud fireworks upset the very young, the very old, the dying, the early risers, priests and numerous other people who do not enjoy explosions.

In view of last month’s tragedy, in which six people were killed, could not future festas be enjoyed without the fireworks, but with the solemn Masses, processions, the talented bands, colourful and elaborate street and church decorations and hawkers, and with an opportunity to meet and make new friends?

The money saved on fireworks could be spent for the good of the village/community, something that would last and be beneficial to all.

Then there would be no more deaths, no more anxieties regarding manufacture, storage, and transportation of fireworks, and it would be a fitting tribute to the souls who have died in the latest and in all previous tragedies.

Maybe a referendum could be conducted nationally on the matter. Life is so precious.
