No minority reports were received by the Health Department when it received the selection board results for a consultant ophthalmic surgeon specialising in anterior segment surgery and glaucoma.

The department was replying to claims by Labour candidate Franco Mercieca yesterday, a member on the board, that he had raised the issue of ineligibility of one of the candidates.

Dr Mercieca said the chairman had reiterated that the list of candidates to be interviewed was issued by the PSC and the board was obliged to assess thecandidates and grade them according to their qualifications and abilities.

The Department of Health said today that the selection board result was duly signed and confirmed by all members of the selection board.
