An anti-immigration protest due to have been held today in Valletta did not materialise.

The police had warned yesterday that no permit had been issued.

“The police are warning against the promotion of any misconduct that does not conform with the law,” the force said in a statement.

Two protests had been advertised on social media, one for yesterday and another for this morning. The organisers said the activities were meant to support the government's stand on migration.

However Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said on Friday such demonstrations should not be held and he was not backing them.

The organisers, Malta Tagħna, said they will be applying for all the necessary permits to have another demonstration on August 4.
