The assistant electoral commissioners suspended during the early voting process last week did not have any malicious intent when they made the mistakes, according to the Electoral Commission.

In one incident, an elderly man at the Sa Maison home for the elderly voted when he was not entitled to cast his ballot there and another man was given the wrong local council ballot sheet at the Naxxar counting hall.

The Electoral Commission said yesterday the Sa Maison incident involved a man who became a resident at the home after the stipulated deadline and so had to vote in his hometown and not at the home.

“The man had a voting document and this means he will not be voting on Saturday because he already cast his vote,” the commission said.

The 10 assistant electoral commissioners who were replaced will not be involved in any of the vote processes between today and Saturday.
