I refer to the letter by Omar Xuereb under the title Joseph Muscat's Advisor (April 7).

Let me declare from the outset that I do not belong to any team or strategy group, political or otherwise. I am purely an independent spectator with an exceptionally high degree of esteem and admiration for a particular candidate contesting the MLP leadership.

I also declare that I do not receive any official or unofficial encouragement to pursue my personal enthusiasm in this matter.

I therefore solemnly deny any involvement in the campaign even though I feel proud to be on the side of many others to encourage a successful choice. I would therefore expect an immediate withdrawal of the allegation made by Mr Xuereb.

Having made my declaration I will now move to the points of lesser importance.

In human relations one comes across two diametrical opposites: the substantives that look for the substance of the subject matter and the pedantic that are always looking for trivialities.

Mr Xuereb would probably feel comfortable in the second category as for one single slip in a previous letter where I used the gender term "he" instead of "he/her", is trying to portray me as some Gérard Depardieu exposition of an aggressive, male chauvinist pig and a political advisor sitting on some imaginary strategy team to promote the candidacy of a contender.

During the course of his attempted war of attrition in my regard, a futile endeavour to weaken my argumentation, ironically he did not even live up to his attributes as in the last line of his letter he misused "who's" instead of the relative pronoun "whose".

Some concocted parody of a pedantic scholar!
