Nationalist MP Claudio Grech asked Economic Affairs Minister Chris Cardona in a written parliaentary question this evening whether offers have been made to monti stall owners in order to give up their space at the market.

The minister said the information is still being collected and a reply would be given in another sitting.

When Mr Grech asked whether the government had promised the company now running the covered market (Is-Suq) that the open market (Il-Monti) would be relocated, the minister said the question should be referred to the responsible minister.

Asked how many Monti licence holders there are, Mr Cardona said there are 74.
