Ms Caruana Galizia’s blog, Running Commentary, was one of the most-visited websites in Malta, supplying readers with a mix of investigative pieces and comments on political opponents. The journalist also had an international following.

While she was celebrated for her investigative pieces, some of her work was dismissed as merely personal attacks on various individuals.

As news of the murder spread around the world, making headlines internationally, in some circles talk shifted to whether the blog would be continued, either by another person or even a group of people.

Early indications suggest, however, this is not the case and at present, there are no plans to maintain the blog. While is too early to rule out the possibility of someone providing content, Times of Malta has been told this will not happen any time soon.

Last year, Running Commentary played a crucial role in the Panama Papers scandal, with Ms Caruana Galizia being the first to break the news of the involvement of minister Konrad Mizzi and the Prime Minister’s chief of staff, Keith Schembri, in the leak. The journalist relentlessly reported on the case in the ensuing months.

Earlier this year, the journalist alleged that Panama company Egrant was owned by Michelle Muscat, the Prime Minister’s wife. While the Muscats vehemently denied the claim, the allegations triggered June’s snap election.

For years uninhibitedly reporting against the Labour Party, in recent months Ms Caruana Galizia also harshly criticised the new Opposition leader, Adrian Delia.
