The police did not find anything illegal in a search they had carried out at the home of Romeo Bone who is accused of stalking PC99, the whistle-blower on the alleged crime gang led by former Police Inspector David Gatt.

Giving testimony during an interrogation by Mr Bone’s defence lawyer Giannella Caruana Curran, prosecuting inspector Joseph Mercieca also said that during the search, carried out after Mr Bone’s arrest, no evidence was found connecting PC99 Mario Portelli and Mr Bone.

When questioned the inspector also said that he went to look for footage from security cameras placed close to PC Portelli’s house. However, the local council informed him that there was no recording.

He also said that the cameras were directed on a monument in the vicinity and did not show the PC Portelli’s residence.

When further questioned, he said he never saw any footage from these cameras and therefore he did not know what area they exactly recorded.

Inspector Mercieca confirmed that Mr Bone had asked him to check the footage to prove that he did not slow down in front of PC99’s house.

The accused had also told the inspector to check the security cameras around the airport to confirm who was with him on the day of the arrest.

Inspector Mallia said Mr Bone told him that he had just passed close to the airport roundabout. This area was not covered by the security cameras so he did not request the footage.
