Hospital doctors would not suffer any overtime cuts, the Medical Association of Malta said it was assured yesterday, following reports that extra work would not be remunerated.

The association was told by Mater Dei Hospital management that doctors would continue to be paid overtime and that the system had not been changed, MAM general secretary Martin Balzan said when contacted.

The union sought clarifications after doctors reported they feared they would no longer be able to claim overtime. The problem cropped up with the introduction of new time sheets that doctors had to use to register their working hours.

The hospital, Dr Balzan said, had rolled out new software to issue the work sheets and, since there was no space to register overtime, doctors thought they would not be able to claim overtime.
