The GWU complained today that it had not been consulted on the privatisation of Malta Shipyards since the call for offers closed.

In a statement, the union said its general secretary, Tony Zarb, wrote to the Finance Minister on February 25 seeking consultation as agreed between the two sides last September 5.

Mr Zarb also wrote to Mr Fenech on March 12, informing him that the shipyard was refusing profitable ship repair and galvanising contracts. Indeed, the Galvanising plant had been closed.

But nothing had been heard from the minister. The GWU said this delay was unwarranted and it was calling for consultations to be begin immediately.
