No cases of diarrhoea caused by E. Coli have been reported in Malta this year to date, the government said.

It said that an outbreak of E. Coli has become apparent in northern Germany, the government said.

It said that the main presenting features are bloody diarrhoea which in some instances has led to the development of serious complications resulting in two deaths out of the 138 persons infected.

The Public Health Regulation Department advised anyone having bloody diarrhoea, especially if related to a recent travel history to northern Germany, to seek medical attention immediately.

The department said it was monitoring the local and international situation.
