The campaign against Spring hunting – Shout – this morning said people should not be made to forget the way how hunters had acted over the years.

The reality, it said, was different from what the Yes Campaign was making it out to be ahead of the April 11 referendum.

The No Campaign issued a video under the heading ‘Do Not Forget’ focused on various incidents involving hunters shooting at protected birds or involved in incidents with other people.

No Campaign spokesman Mark Sultana said hunters were trying to hide behind the mask of the Yes Campaign.

People, he said, should remember how they were denied the countryside in Spring and how birds were shot at indiscriminately.

The No Campaign said it had compiled a report of serious violent incidents involving hunters and the killing of protected birds over the past 10 years. It shows 14 incidents of ‘significant violence,’ 16 cases of violence against trees, natural reserves and property, and nine cases involving threats and abuse against people.

Moira Delia said the people should not forget the rare marsh harriers which were targeted at night while they were resting, the shot flamingos and storks and the balaclava clad hunter caught shooting birds in the Foresta 2000 bird sanctuary. These, she said, were the tip of the iceberg, and the people should not forget.
