The Nationalist Party accused the government of failing to act on the increasing problem of burglaries reported in Sliema, Swieqi, St Julian’s, Gżira and San Ġwann.

Instead, residents are being left to fend for themselves and come up with their own solutions, deputy leader Beppe Fenech Adami said.

Residents are afraid to keep valuable things in their homes and some are also reluctant to go abroad.

While the majority of the policemen did their duty, they lacked the numbers and resources to adequately fight crime, Dr Fenech Adami said.

He appealed for more investment in the police.
