With just one match to go for the current campaign to come to a close, there are three issues still to be settled in the Italian top flight.

Inter wrapped up their 17th league title with three weeks to spare and at the wrong end of the table Reggina and Lecce already know that they will play Serie B football in 2009/10.

The three Italian teams in next season's Europa League will be Genoa, Roma and Lazio. Inter and Juventus are through to the group stages of the Champions League.

So, what is still up for grabs?

The third relegated side will be either Bologna or Torino, with the latter very likely to go down.

Up to the 89th minute on Sunday, with the score locked on 2-2 with Genoa, Torino were still one point better off than Bologna, who settled for a 0-0 draw at Chievo. Then, the unexpected happened as Inter-bound Diego Milito scored from close range to give Genoa all three points and Torino now start the week level on points with Bologna.

Sunday's fixtures see Bologna hosting Catania and Torino are away to Roma.

Bologna's home fixture looks more winnable on paper than Torino's game in the capital.

Giuseppe Papadopulo's side need a win to make sure of survival, irrespective of the outcome of the match at the Olympic Stadium. In the event that Bologna and Torino finish level on points, this season's direct encounters will be taken into consideration.

And it is here that Bologna have a clear edge over the Maroons in that they won 5-2 at home and then settled for a 1-1 draw in Turin.

The prospects, indeed, look bleak for Torino who could be doomed to the Serie B for the sixth time in the last two decades.

Up to a few weeks ago, there was a sort of feel-good factor within the Milan camp in that they were making a desperate late attempt to challenge Inter for the scudetto.

The former European champions did manage to reduce the gap with leaders Inter only to flounder when everyone expected Inter to succumb under the pressure.

Inter went on to secure the league title as Milan misfired badly. They have now jeopardised their chances of a top-three finish, which means an automatic slot in the Champions League group stage.

On Sunday, Milan travel to the Artemio Franchi stadium to face Fiorentina. In the first round, the Rossoneri prevailed thanks to an Alexandre Pato goal. If Fiorentina manage a victory by at least a two-goal margin, they will finish third, level on points with Milan but with a better goal difference in direct clashes.

It has been a season of more downs than ups for Milan.

Their poor showing on the transfer market saw them playing second fiddle to rivals Inter who claimed the last four league titles whereas Milan's scudetto drought has been going on since 2004.

It will be of paramount importance for Milan to finish third. The players would want to avoid the qualifying phase and enjoy their holidays even though for some it would still be different due to the FIFA Confederations Cup and the UEFA U-21 Championship finals.

The remaining issue still in the balance in the Serie A is who will top the scorers' list.

At present, there are three strikers still in contention - Marco di Vaio (Bologna), Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Inter), both 23 goals, and Diego Milito (Genoa) 22.

It is rather difficult to predict who will be the new goal king in Italy but, perhaps, Ibrahimovic could wrap up an otherwise memorable campaign in Italy before he makes up his mind on his future with Inter.

Serie A statistics

1 goalless draw in last weekend's fixtures as Chievo and Bologna shared the spoils in a 0-0 stalemate. Chievo grabbed the point needed to make sure of survival but Bologna are still in deep trouble. Fellow strugglers Torino twice came from behind but still lost 3-2 to Genoa. This was Genoa's first win in Turin since 1940/41. With a home win over Catania next Sunday, Bologna will be automatically safe.

2nd successive away win for Roma against Milan as the Giallorossi produced a superb performance on their way to handing the Rossoneri their second home upset of the term. Thanks to this win Roma made sure of a berth in next season's Europa League. Fourth-placed Fiorentina struck late to hold Lecce to a 1-1 draw at the Via Del Mare stadium and condemn the hosts to Serie B.

3rd straight home league win for Catania against Napoli as Walter Zenga's side left it late to claim all points at stake and in so doing, interrupt their barren run of four consecutive defeats. Napoli have collected only one point out of the last-available 12. Atalanta ended Palermo's Europa League hopes by holding on to a 2-2 home draw. Atalanta's third successive draw coincided with Palermo's first positive away result after back-to-back setbacks to Milan (0-3) and Siena (0-1). In similar fashion, Samp-Udinese shared the spoils in a thrilling 2-2 draw. This was Udinese's first drawn result after six straight wins.

4 penalties were awarded by referees last weekend. Diego Milito scored from the spot in Genoa's 3-2 away win over Torino. Gaetano D'Agostino gave Udinese an early lead against Sampdoria and in the same match Antonio Cassano put his team 2-1 up from a penalty. Elsewhere, Giuseppe Mascara ably converted a penalty two minutes from time to give Catania a temporary 2-1 lead against Napoli. Meanwhile, no fewer than four players saw red on Sunday. These were Ignazio Abate (Torino), Felipe Melo (Fiorentina), Massimo Am-brosini (Milan) and Daniele Mannini (Napoli).

4th defeat of the term for champions Inter as they went down to Cagliari at the Sant'Elia stadium for the first time since September 1993 (1-0). Juventus, now led by interim coach Ciro Ferrara after the sacking of Claudio Ranieri, were a transformed side as they beat mid-table Siena for the first time in over three years. In midweek, Lazio scored their only goal early in the game, through Mauro Zarate, to condemn Reggina to relegation. Reggina's only win in seven visits to the capital dates back to January 26, 2003 (1-0).

31 goals were scored on the penultimate day: 15 from the hosts and the remaining 16 from the visitors. Foreigners contributed with 10 goals while there were 14 first-half goals. Total number of goals scored so far is 946.

Four players - Diego Milito (Genoa), Massimo Ambrosini (Milan), Gianvito Plasmati (Atalanta) and Alessandro Del Piero (Juventus) - grabbed a brace each. Mauricio Isla, of Udinese, committed the only own goal of the day. Martin Jorgensen (Fiorentina), Plasmati, Vito Falconieri (Catania) and Jeremy Menez (Roma), came on as substitutes and scored. Marco di Vaio (Bologna) and Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Inter) are the leading marksmen with 23 goals each.
