Nigerian security forces are investigating a possible mass kidnapping of villagers in the northeast state of Borno, a security source said.

Agents had received reports that suspected militant Islamists raided the villages over the weekend, the source added.

Islamist group Boko Haram triggered an international outcry by abducting more than 200 schoolgirls from the remote region in April.
