Stephen Ikeckikwu Egbo, a 32-year-old Nigerian who allegedly received drugs imported by a Romanian man over the weekend, was charged in court today with conspiring to import cocaine into Malta.

Police Inspector Denis Theuma said the accused, who lives in San Gwann, was arrested in a controlled delivery on Saturday.

His Romanian supplier was arrested when he flew in with 60 drug capsules in his stomach on Friday. He had told the police that he had come to Malta on another occasion and had also delivered drugs to Mr Egbo.

Inspector Theuma objected to bail saying that Mr Egbo had only been in Malta for three months and had no family here.

Mr Egbo, who is pleading not guilty, was remanded in custody.
