Two environmental groups have joined 100 European organisations in a campaign to support the public’s right to enjoy nature, saying this is under threat from the European Commission.

Birdlife Malta and Friends of the Earth said the European Commission was going to review the Birds and Habitats Directives, one of the EU’s most successful nature laws.

The European organisations are demanding that the nature laws be maintained, better implemented and enforced, fearing big business will be given more access to nature sites for profit.

Citizens are being invited to comment on the review, and environmental organisations have launched a user-friendly website where they can do so: www.naturealert.eu.
